Which outdoor flooring is warm underfoot?
PU-bound rubber-granule floor coverings feel comparatively warm underfoot outdoors.
Rubber tiles and rubber mats made from PU-bound rubber granules are available for terraces, balconies, playgrounds, fitness areas and workplaces.
PU-bound rubber granules draw less heat from the skin than dense floor coverings and therefore feel warmer at the same surface temperature. Their low thermal conductivity and porous structure are decisive. The contact area beneath feet, hands or the body warms up quickly, while only a small amount of body heat flows into the covering.
This effect is noticeable when walking barefoot, during floor exercises, when sitting and in lounging areas. With prolonged contact, the substrate and tile thickness affect thermal comfort. Thicker tiles keep the cold from an unheated substrate at bay for longer.
Direct sunlight can heat the covering considerably. After rain, it feels cooler because of water and evaporative cooling. The same applies at the poolside.
